Royal Icing & Brush Embroidery Techniques Workshop – 13-14 July – Ufton


Brief Description:
This two day workshop will give you an insight into royal icing, pipe work & brush embroidery. This workshop will give you the skills to reproduce the pipe work learnt to decorate future cakes.

This class has a maximum of 8 students
Duration: 2 days

Time: From 10.00 am to 4.30 pm

Start Date: 13th July 2020
Finish Date: 14th July 2020

Level of difficulty:

Beginners or those with some experience. No previous experience is necessary.

Skills you will learn:

  • A general overview of royal icing
  • How to make piping bags
  • Learn how to pipe a variety of different edgings using piping nozzles
  • Learn the techniques required to produce a brush embroidery plaque
  • How to pipe small blossoms & leaves

Refreshments will be provided, along with the materials. Students will need to bring a packed lunch. Students will also need to bring their own tools & equipment. A list is provided below.

Equipment students need to bring to the workshop

  • Non-Stick Workboard
  • Scissors
  • Pointy nosed tweezers
  • Apron
  • Coupler or adapter for PME piping nozzles
  • Flat-headed flower nail
  • PME piping nozzles 1, 2, 3, 4, 13, 51 leaf & 56 R or L (right or left-handed)
  • Small pallet knife
  • Turntable (optional but recommended)
  • Round paintbrush SK No 2 or similar
  • A small pot for water
  • A blue jay cloth or similar
  • Notebook & pen
  • An 8”x3” deep round straight sugar paste covered dummy
  • An 12” round sugar paste covered cake drum board
  • A 12” cake box to take your creation home in
  • A block of oasis or styrofoam covered in cling film

NB: The dummy & drum board should both be covered in coloured sugar paste. (The colour is the choice of the student) a minimum of 48 hours prior to the workshop. The dummy should also be mounted & secured on the board prior to the workshop.
