A little background ...
Hello and welcome to my website. My name is Colette Laura May and I am a self-taught Sugar Flower Artist & tutor. I am extremely passionate about teaching & sharing my knowledge & expertise. I love helping students to develop their skills in Sugarcraft, enabling them to produce wired sprays of flowers & foliage to adorn any celebration cake to be proud of.
I started my sugarcraft journey learning the skill of Royal Icing many years ago, I then taught Royal Icing for several years through adult education colleges. I then gained my City & Guilds 7307 teaching further education in 1990.
One day my mum came home having been to a WI Class and she’d made daisies, I was amazed. I couldn’t wait to try and make my own. Well, needless to say, I succeeded and continued to teach myself this fantastic art, I was hooked.
I joined my local British Sugarcraft Guild where I watched talented artists demonstrate their craft, I was inspired by their work and set about perfecting the art of sugar flower making.
I then moved onto teaching “Sugarcraft”, that was over thirty years ago, I have come a long way since then! I am incredibly passionate about what I do and strive to ensure that each individual reaches their potential. I have taught for many years and have a loyal student base as well as lots of new students. So whether you are a beginner, intermediate or advanced there is something for everyone.
As a predominately self-taught Sugar Flower Artist, I acknowledge the work of many other tutors, in my learning through their Sugarcraft books.
I am the Co-Founding Member and Vice-Chairperson of the Warwick British Sugarcraft Guild.
